UWI students did their part in spreading awareness of Breast Cancer during the month of October as well as helping to raise money to fund cancer research and aid cancer patients in Trinidad and Tobago.
Initiatives included “Pink Hijab Day” by the UWI Islamic Society; a day where members wore pink and shared breast cancer awareness material and also held a fund-raising cake sale.
The Rotaract Club of UWI/Piarco also centered their fund-raising and awareness-drive around cake with their event Cupcakes for Cancer
The UWI Environmental Society had an event on campus where students were invited to write or draw something inspirational on a sheet of pink cardboard, the collection of writings and drawings would then be used to decorate the wards of breast cancer patients in the Mt Hope Hospital to inspire than and let them know that they are not alone in the battle.
UWI students Activism also extended to activities like a fun run/walk to raise awareness on Domestic Violence and the Student Psychology Association taking part in the Down Syndrome Family Network- Buddy Walk
