This year, the annual UWI Hindu Society Divali play focused on a story from the Mahabharata; one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India. The play focused on the Pandava brothers, friends and disciples of Krishna.
All five brothers; Yudhisthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva were married to the same woman Draupadi.
The play dealt with the subject matter of the Mhabharata, namely the conflict between the Pandavas and their cousins the Kauravas as well as an incident from Draupadi’s past life.
The actors managed to showcase the philosophical and religious importance of the epic tale but added light humour and action sequences for more mainstream appeal.
